"Sound in Faith - Sound in Doctrine"

Titus 1:13

It is amazing how much Paul talks to the young preachers, Timothy and Titus, about sound doctrine. It is essential. Often times we tire of the basics and fundamentals. We long for something new and exciting. And while there is a place for plumbing the depths of scripture, we must understand the foundational principles first. After all, you cannot do calculus if you cannot add and subtract. It is heart breaking to see the number of young Christians leaving sound churches for denominations or, even, the world because they do not have a solid foundation on which to stand. They are subject to the winds and waves (Ephesians 4:14). 

This year, the Southport church will make a concerted effort to be sound in faith and sound in doctrine. The elders have asked our evangelist, Jonathan Caldwell, to work through some basic doctrines of scripture. These will include lessons on the gospel, grace, judgment, heaven and hell, instrumental music, Marriage and Divorce, the judgment day, miracles, Satan, baptism, and much more. Our aim is to sure up the base, the faith on which we stand. If we are going to be sound in faith and sound in doctrine, then we have to spend a lot of time in scripture. We have classes for all ages on Sundays at 9:30 AM and Wednesdays at 7:00 PM. When faced with the wiles of the devil, will you be able to stand? Will you be Sound in Faith - Sound in Doctrine?

Adult Classes for 2025

The Sunday morning adult classes will continue through the Old Testament study Jonathan has started and will look something like this:

1^st Quarter – Joshua, Judges, and Ruth

2^nd Quarter – The United Kingdom

3^rd Quarter – The Divided Kingdom (I)

4^th Quarter – The Divided Kingdom (II)

The Wednesday night adult class will help us carry the theme for the year:

1^st Quarter – The Design and Work of the Church

2^nd Quarter – Offering to God Acceptable Worship

3^rd Quarter – When Doctrine Is Not Sound

4^th Quarter – Living a Life Consistent with Sound Doctrine
