The events of the past week have reminded me that…
...it’s easy to talk over others to the point that no one hears
...it’s easy to think that if I yell loudest I will be heard (not true)
...it’s easy to generalize, politicize, over simplify, and victimize
...it’s easy to allow fear to eclipse faith
...it’s easy to spew inflammatory rhetoric
...it’s easy to rush to judgment
...it’s easy to adopt the mob mentality
Do you know what can happen when a mob mentality occurs? Anything. Case in point:
The mob: “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”
Pilate: “Why? What evil has He done?”
It didn’t matter. Pilate washed his hands and handed them Jesus. They got their way and their wish. Isaiah said it would happen. “His judgment [due process] was taken away.” “When Pilate saw that a riot was starting...”
That’s what the world does. Yet we are not of the world. We are God’s children. We work to be different. We work to love our neighbor. We work to understand where someone else is coming from. We work to be fair. We work to be just.
Work doesn't come easy, but it's worth it.
